My Story: From Teacher to Founder of a Recruitment Agency

I’m Yuliia Potapova. I was born and raised in the Zhytomyr region, and today I am the founder and director of the recruitment agency PPower — an HR expert, entrepreneur, and mother of two wonderful children.

Where did it all begin?

My journey began back when I was a student at the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics. My first work experience was at a local market. No one could have imagined then that one day I would run my recruitment agency. As I like to say: “What a twist!”

I’ve always strived to learn and grow. I earned a Master’s degree in Physics, a certificate in NGO Management from the Ukrainian Catholic University, an international GLI leadership certification with training in the UK, Nepal, and Ghana, as well as a professional HR education from the Lviv Business School (LvBS).

First steps in business and HR

From 2010 to 2015, I worked as a regional director for an international organisation with an office in Oxford. It was there that I developed a global outlook and learned to lead teams on an international level.

The next chapter was just as vibrant — for four years (2015–2019), I led the national NGO SCC Ukraine, where I implemented a successful international project called Uncover. My key achievements were the expansion of the team and budget, along with gaining international recognition.

The period of 2019–2020 was a turning point for me in HR. I served as HR Director of an American media company, HRBP in an international media-tech firm, managed the large-scale festival “VideoZhara”, and led a project at the Presidential Commissioner’s Office for Children’s Rights. These challenges taught me to respond quickly and manage processes effectively.

How PPower was born

In autumn 2020, I made an important decision — to launch the recruitment agency PPower (People, Process, Performance, Professionalism), which also stands for Potapov’s Power — the strength of our family. Within the first few months, we successfully filled complex top-level vacancies, and in 2021, we opened a client’s office in Lviv and hired 40+ employees.

Thanks to recommendations and our professional approach, the agency grew rapidly. Today, we are actively implementing HR process automation, led by my husband and business partner, Andrii Potapov.

Social responsibility and support

Social impact is essential to me. That’s why I actively support women in their career growth through the Women of Action project, and I also provide career consultations for internally displaced people starting from scratch during the war. I know from personal experience how crucial support can be on this path.

Personal life and sources of inspiration

I am a happy wife and mother, passionate about running, women’s leadership, and working with youth. My mentors and sources of inspiration include James C. Collins, Bill Hybels, and Inna Poperechniuk (co-founder of Nova Poshta). KPMG is my professional benchmark and role model.
